Jesus taught that in everything there is a crucial moment; if that moment is missed the thing most likely will never be done at all. Psychologists tell us that every time we have a peak moment, if we do not act on that moment at once, the less likely we are to act on it again. The emotion becomes a substitute for the action. Sometimes we feel that we would like to write a letter, perhaps of sympathy, perhaps of thanks or perhaps of congratulations, to someone. Unless we do it on the moment, if we put it off until tomorrow, it will in all likelihood never be written at all. It is Jesus insistence that we must act at once when our hearts are stirred within us.
Jesus says that no one plowing makes progress looking back. Yet, there are some of us whose heart is in the past. They look forever backwards, thinking wistfully about “the good old days.” The watchword of the kingdom is not “backward” but “forward.”
Members of a Boy Scout troop were out on a first–aid training exercise. Two young scouts were sent into the woods to play the role of “victim.” “Lay out there and wait for us to come to give you first aid,” was the instruction. The troop found the first scout, but they took so long to minister to him that the second little boy became discouraged. When the troop finally got to the place where he was supposed to be, they found a note that said, “I have bled to death and gone home.”
Heavenly Father, help us, through your love, to bring our lives into harmony with the Father’s will. Today.
God bless! Have a wonderful week!
